Entertainment - Cancellation & Abandonment

Cancellation & Abandonment Insurance is designed to protect event organisers, promoters or sponsors against cancellation, abandonment, postponement, interruption or relocation of event(s) as a direct result of any cause beyond the control of the assured or the participants (certain exclusions apply).

Examples of the type of incidents which might result in a loss include:

  • Power failure
  • Damage to leased or rented venue
  • Damage to surrounding venues or infrastructure resulting in lack of access
  • Failure of public transport facilities or denial of access
  • Natural catastrophe (e.g. earthquake)
  • Adverse weather conditions
  • Non appearance of key individuals
  • Inability to erect facilities at venue
  • Disease outbreak (certain exclusions apply)
  • Strike risks
  • Governmental Intervention
  • Any other previously unforeseen cause not excluded under the Certificate wording

In addition to their own costs and revenue, the event organiser needs to pay particular attention to potential financial loss which may arise out of contractual relationships with television and sponsors, or through loss of costs, expenses and guarantees which are not recoverable following cancellation, postponement, curtailment, abandonment, or relocation of the planned event. For example, commitments to hotels, venues, caterers or other service providers as well as ticket refunds.

Our cover can be extended to cover penalties imposed by the venue for failure to vacate the premises and extra expenses incurred in order to mitigate any loss.
